Royal Upgrade: The King’s Ginger by Berry Bros. & Rudd
Berry Bros. & Rudd specifically created The King’s Ginger in 1903 for King Edward VII. Still today the sweet and revitalising liqueur stands out not only because of its delightfully golden colour and distinctive flavour – the latest upgrade of its packaging also ensures it is at the centre of attention on every shelf.
The bottle has a unique shape, embossing and colour gradient. The elegant front and neck label round off the sophisticated and harmonious look. Just like the bottle itself they combine an individual shape with tactile effects. High-build matt varnish highlights the main design elements and letterings to give them a 3D feel.
The Story Behind the Creation of the Spirit
King Edward VII would endlessly drive his beloved Daimler, whatever the weather. So much so, that in 1903 the Royal Physician became concerned about the monarch’s health. So, he called on Berry Bros. and Rudd for a solution, a high strength liqueur that would warm and revivify His Majesty. Crafted from fresh ginger, (for centuries celebrated for its medicinal properties) and enlivened by the judicious addition of citrus oil, The King’s Ginger was born. Rich, golden and delightfully crisp in flavour, it helped King Edward stay colourful and ready for whatever came next.
